I've recently created and presented two distinct poetry workshops, as follows:
You'll find more information about these two workshops in my May, 2024 blog post, "Two New Poetry Workshops." If you're interested in collaborating on a workshop for your group, please contact me through the Contact page, or at loribuffalo@gmail.com .
On October 11, 2024, I participated (for the first time) in a wonderful literacy program, Festival-To-Go, founded in 1997 by Vivian Vande Velde. Its purpose is to bring books to kids in city schools, and to inspire in them a lifelong love of reading. You can learn about the fabulous morning I spent teaching poetry to two fifth-grade classrooms in my current blog post, Teaching Poetry to Kids, and you can read more about Festival-To-Go here: https://www.rcbfestival.com/festival-to-go .
I'll be adding some F.L.A.R.E. to my life tomorrow (June 1, 2024) when I participate in a book festival with fellow authors from the Finger Lakes area of New York State. It's called "Words in Bloom," and is being held in beautiful Canandaigua, New York. I'll post more about the festival in the coming days. I'm super-excited that I'll be presenting a workshop on poetry there. Copies of the poetry workshop handout are up on my website! Just go to my May 31, 2024 blog to grab a virtual copy!
What does summer mean to you? For me, it means time to relax by a lake with a good book, a bowl of ice cream, and ... DUCKS? Yes, and soon I'll be enjoying all that and more at a children's book fair over at The Spotted Duck in Penn Yan, New York. On June 29 (rain date June 30), I'll join local authors – members of Kids' Indie Writers & Illustrators (KIWI) – where we'll be reading from our latest children's books. Mine will be Iguana in the Road, which answers the burning questions, "Why did the iguana cross the road ... and did he manage to get across safely?"
In April, 2023, I met with Rory Fitzpatrick (Irondequoit, NY Town Supervisor) and Shannon Grieve (Irondequoit Recreation Department Director), where I had my picture taken, received a swag bag, and was given recognition for naming the town's new quarterly Activity Guide/Newsletter. My entry, chosen from among 25 others, was "Eye on Irondequoit."
A few years ago, my short story, "The Snake Path," was awarded first prize in Bardsy.com's inaugural short story competition. I shared the honor with Albert M. for his story, "The Christmas Door." Here's a very nice article Bardsy.com published about my story: https://bardsyonmed.medium.com/a-serpentine-midsummer-nights-dream-28509a603c9c
I recently wrote a song for my folksinger friend, Pat, and I performed it with some friends at Pat's birthday party. The tune,"Pat's Past and Present," is about a 200-year old coal miner turned singer (named Pat). The last line goes like this: "She sings upon a stage, my friends, sings upon a stage ... and 'though she's lived two centuries, she doesn't look her age!"
